The biggest NFL storyline, last week, was the release of wide receiver DeSean Jacksohephiladlephia Eagles. Speculation was rampant as to why Jackson, indisputably one of the top ten receivers in the NFL, was released so abruptly with no attempt by the Eagles to acquire value in a trade.

The Eagles gave no reason but sources to sports media offered possible gang affiliations with the Crips street gang as a factor in Jackson's dismissal. Jackson has denied any gang membership or activity. Jackson has since signed with the Washington Redskins.

The details of Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito and the "Bullygate" story continues to evolve and take stranger and stranger turns. Reports are now surfacing that Incognito held "meetings" for offensive linemen at a strip club and "fined" players who failed to attend. The story has grown legs beyond the original headline of Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin leaving the team because of bullying by teammates, spearheaded by Incognito.

Where have I been? I had a medical issue that made it physically challenging to type up the high quality, Pulitzer worthy writing you have become accustomed to reading over the past few years, so I shut the blog down for a couple of weeks. Today, it's time to climb back on the horse!

Today's retweet, from The Fake ESPN (‏@TheFakeESPN) has a loose connection to the world of sports. Unless you've completely avoided all forms of electronic media during the last two days, you've undoubtedly heard of the heroic efforts of Cleveland resident Charles Ramsey. Ramsey helped free Amanda Berry, her child, and two other women who had been held captive for the past 10 years. His colorful disposition in concert with his selfless heroics have made him the talk of the Twittersphere over the last 48 hours.

"Thousands of Cleveland sports fans asking Charles Ramsey to kick the door down and free them from Cleveland."

It's been 24 years, almost to the day.

Sports and sex are two things that have made the most cerebral and most rational men throw their better judgment to the wind. When the two elements come together, they are tabloid gold. When scandalous, they are always sensational and often shocking, flying in the face of the image of the person(s) involved.

Once again, another famous man is being publicly shamed for "dipping his pen in the company ink". Former Miami Dolphins quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Dan Marino recently admitted to fathering a girl in 2005 from an extramarital with a CBS staffer, Donna Savattere. The child, Chloe, is now seven years old.

Marino is not the first famous athlete nor will he be the last to allow the act of thinking with the wrong "member" to (re)produce a lifetime of joy. But, of course, the Twittersphere lit up upon discovery of this scandal. This leads up to yet another zinger from The Fake ESPN (@TheFakeESPN):

"Dan Marino failed to get out of the pocket when he felt the pressure coming."  

The Fake ESPN also delivered this one liner, "Even in retirement Dan Marino was firing through coverage."

It is very possible that the Jets will be without both Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow at quarterback in 2013 via trade, waivers, or otherwise. The Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots treated America to a classic of a Sunday Night Football game. Unfortunately, the game, like too many NFL games in 2012, was marred by questionable and/or controversial calls by the replacement game officials. Even worse, this was particularly the case at the very end of the game when the Ravens kicked the game winning field goal, but the ball was kicked higher than the uprights and was very close to one of the uprights at the time the ball cleared the crossbar.

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick, being his customarily ornery self, harassed the officials from the opening whistle to the final gun. His actions at the final gun, grabbing an official in response to the game winning field goal, will probably earn him a nice fine from the NFL (if not a one game suspension). Regardless, The Hoodie will not be vilified by his peers, not even Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh, for tossing gasoline on the fire that is the incompetence of the replacement NFL officials.

During NBC's telecast, the video suddenly cut to the blimp shot. Al Michaels said that there was a streaker on the field. It has been the policy of television networks to not give these these knuckleheads their 15 minutes of fame by focusing the cameras on them.
