Richie Incognito, willingly or not, has become synonymous with meat-head bullies in the NFL. His well publicized harassment of former Miami Dolphins teammate Jonathan Martin has been a prominent topic in sports media since Martin left the team in November.

This scandal became so sensational that the summer story about Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper's caught-on-tape racial outburst became a footnote in last year's chapter of sports controversy. And, of course, sports media had a pot of gold dropped upon them when Missouri Tigers defensive end Michael Sam, the 2013 SEC Defensive Player of The Year, announced he was gay, virtually assuring that major league American sports will have its first active openly gay player, in it toughest and most popular sport.

If there were any question whether or not the spillover from the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying scandal would show on the field, the question was answered last night. The Dolphins lost to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers last night, 22-19, on Monday Night Football. The Dolphins fell behind 15-0 in the first half. they ran for a total of two yards. They blew a late lead in the fourth quarter after rebounding from the uninspired start.

Simply from a football standpoint, not having guard Richie Incognito or tackle Jonathan Martin, two fifths of their starting offensive line, probably crippled the running game. The distractions from the racially charged bullying case, in spite of denials by Dolphins players, were obvious. Now way would the Dolphins, who had a healthy pulse before the details of this story broke, have looked so hapless against an equally hapless and dysfunctional Buccaneers team.

The details of Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito and the "Bullygate" story continues to evolve and take stranger and stranger turns. Reports are now surfacing that Incognito held "meetings" for offensive linemen at a strip club and "fined" players who failed to attend. The story has grown legs beyond the original headline of Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin leaving the team because of bullying by teammates, spearheaded by Incognito.
