Every time the New England Patriots and New York Jets get together, there are some fireworks. Even when the football is bad, as it was last night on Thursday Night Football, there is going to be a good part of the show.

The "good part" came at the very end of the game when Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib intercepted a Geno Smith pass in the final minute, slamming the door on the Jets. Talib was juking near the sideline during the return. Shortly after Talib ran out of bounds, Jets center Nick Mangold hit Talib at the ankles and the players engaged in some extracurricular rough play.

When the brew ha ha was broken up, Jets tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Jets guard Willie Colon were ejected from the game. With less than 40 seconds remaining and the Jets out of timeouts. All the Patriots need to do was kneel the ball one time and the game was over. However, in sticking with "The Patriot Way", Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick (profanely) insisted that the ejected Jets players walk to the locker room before play continues. That is within the rules. It was also completely unnecessary - a shame tactic.

Bill Belichick doesn't give a damn! Pride? Shame? Fuhgettaboutit! I think the genes attached to emotions like humility and a sense of equity were filtered from The Hoodie's chromosomes.

Regular season baseball is a cross-country marathon, not a sprint. As a result, many televised games leave a lot to be desired. Personally, I'll watch he Fox Saturday Game of the Week if I am at home. Often I'll have a weeknight game on in the background if I am doing other things (sometimes taking a nap). Truth be told, I seldom go out of my way to watch regular season baseball on television before September unless an A-lister like Stephen Strasburg or Justin Verlander is pitching or no-hitter is developing, etc.

Every now-and-then, however, something extraordinary arises from the mundane. MLB Network was airing the Boston Red Sox at the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. The Sox were comfortably ahead in the seventh inning when, suddenly, Red Sox designated hitter, David "Big Papi" Ortiz, received a dubious (i.e. dead wrong) strike one call on a 3-0 count. The pitch was eye-level. Papi took exception.

Ortiz ended up striking out after being up 3-0 in the count. Umpire Tim Timmons let Big Papi slide with some heated words (probably because Timmons knew he was dead wrong). Then Ortiz proceeded to take out his frustration on the bullpen telephone in the dugout with his bat. Ortiz received the old heave-ho and T.V. viewers got a treat.

The baseball world lost three legends this past weekend. St. Louis Cardinals slugger Stan Musial and Baltimore Orioles Manager Earl Weaver, National Baseball Hall of Famers, passed away this past Saturday. College Baseball Hall of Fame coach Rob Fraser, who spent three decades at the University of Miami, known as "The Wizard of College Baseball", passed away on Sunday at age 79.

While Musial was the consummate gentleman and Fraser helped young people transition into manhood, Weaver, as many of you know, was know for a fiery outburst or three...per week. That leads us to this retweet, from Mike (@EERCANE) :

"Weaver/Ron Fraser/Musial in ONE week? Well, at least Heaven's baseball team just got a lot better. Will Jesus put up w/ Weaver's outbursts?"

Weaver, perhaps a little confused about his role in this photo, was ejected over 90 times in his career, including twice before the start of the game.
