Retweet of the Day - September 6, 2013

The 2013 NFL season is officially underway. It commenced with last night's 2013 Kickoff game at Mile High between the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens and the host Denver Broncos, defending AFC West Division champions. The NFL didn't fail to deliver.

Peyton Manning threw for an NFL record seven touchdowns, tied with five other quarterbacks (last by Minnesota Vikings QB Joe Kapp during their NFL Championship winning season of 1969). The Broncos led by 25 points at one point early in the fourth quarter. They appeared to be completely running away with the game.

Two of those seven touchdowns were thrown to free acquisition Wes Welker, formerly with the New England Patriots. Welker caught a total of nine passes and was targeted a total of 11 times. The former Patriot made the strongest case that they should have paid him the reported $9 million/year he was demanding rather than the $6 million/year he settled for to get out of New England.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady could not have been happy about losing his favorite target, especially after taking a pay cut to free up salary cap space. Today's retweet is from a tweeter who is becoming a Hat Trick regular, #DTB12 (@DouchyTomBrady):

"Alright now Peyton Manning is just rubbing it in with his new #Throwmance"

Get used to it, Tom Brady. You can thank "The Patriot Way" for this jilted receiver!

Alex Smith, the first pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, lost his job as the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback to Colin Kaepernick due to a mid-season concussion. Kaepernick shined in relief and Smith never saw the field again. This morning, the 49ers reportedly agreed to a trade for Smith with the Kansas City Chiefs.

This all but certainly spells the end of Matt Cassel's mediocre reign at the Chiefs' signal caller. This leads us to today's retweet from the parody account Thomas F. Brady (@DouchyTomBrady). The irony is that the real Tom Brady made his rise to stardom 12 seasons ago when established Patriots starter and Pro Bowler (and Hall of Fame nominee) Drew Bledsoe was injured and replaced by Brady, then an unknown 6th round draft pick from the 2000 NFL draft. Cassel made a name for himself in 2008 when he replaced an injured Tom Brady. The Pats, wisely, stuck with their man that go-round.

"I hope Matt Cassel comes back to NE, nobody could hold a clipboard like him"
