I have said, since the beginning of the Manti Te'o girlfriend flap, that I wanted as little to do with this story as possible. I don't think it is a meaningful sports story or even a significant human interest story. Naive people, particularly young people, have been getting taken for a ride on the Internet since the mid-1990s.

The public has a sharp difference of opinion. If I am not giving you what you are interested in, then I am not producing a meaningful blog. So it is with some reluctance that I discuss the impetus for today's retweet.

Te'o was interviewed by journalist Katie Couric. Te'o said that he found out after the fact that the male orchestrator of the Lennay Kekua hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, was the person with whom Te'o spoke on the phone for hours. Te'o released some voicemails to Couric of the woman he believed to be Ms. Kekua.
