The New York Yankees are in a September dogfight with the Baltimore Orioles (with the Tampa Bay Rays in hot pursuit) for the American League East division title. Their catcher, Russell Martin, expected to be an impact player after being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers before the start of last season, has struggled with the stick in the Big Apple. At times, Martin's batting average has been below the Mendoza line of .200.
