Retweet of the Day - July 24, 2012

The New York Yankees made the pre-trade deadline splash of the day on Monday when they were dealt Seattle Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki in exchange for prospects. Suzuki has worn #51 during his career in Seattle, but wore #31 in his debut with the Yankees, in deference to all-time Yankees great outfielder Bernie Williams.

This lit up the Twittersphere. Today's retweet is from Tom Keiser (‏@keisertroll) and illustrates that you can't please everyone all of the time no matter what good gesture you offer. It's also proof that it doesn't take much to make sports news after the NBA Finals and before the NFL season.

"I love it how Ichiro deferred to Bernie Williams over #51 and then decided to wear Dave Winfield's Yankee number."

Winfield was a great Yankee. He was also a great Padre, Angel, Blue Jay, Twin, and he even spend time as an Indian. More than half of his career was not spent in New York. Williams spent his entire 16 year career in pinstripes.
