A Queen fit for the Kings

The Daily Hat Trick typically covers five sports leagues: The NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, NCAA football, and NCAA basketball. However, when any interesting story arises in the sports world, I am on it!

I don't talk a whole lot of NHL hockey because my interest is mildly casual at best. But the Western Conference's 8th seeded Los Angeles Kings have made the most improbable yet dominant run through this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs that I have seen in any team sport ever. The Kings went from battling at the end of the regular season to sneaking into the playoffs to rubbing out the top seeded, defending Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks.

After sweeping the St. Louis Blues, the Kings advanced to the Conference Finals, largely behind the strength of goaltender Jonathan Quick (11-1, 1.41 GAA, 95% SV during the playoffs). Last night, they defeated the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-1, to take a 3-0 lead in the series. The Little Engine That Could is now one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 19 years.

Today's eye candy is a fitting tribute to the remarkable run of the Los Angeles Kings.
